Whiter teeth are appealing to everyone, and there is no shortage of products on the store shelves designed to help you whiten your teeth. There are toothpastes and rinses that containing whitening agents, and there are kits that can be purchased in retail stores. Whitening kits contains peroxide that comes in the form of a gel, which is placed in a tray that fits over your teeth. Whitening strips are also available over the counter.
Before starting any kind of dental regimen, you should talk with your dentist about the products you plan to use and any possible side effects. The whitening treatment that is available in your dentist’s office is both safe and effective. The dentist will use a gel or a rubber barrier to protect your gums before applying the bleach. The solution penetrates deep into your teeth to break the stains up into smaller pieces to make them less noticeable. Some procedures require the use of a special light to activate the gel. The process may take several applications, but you will notice a change right away. The dentist can also provide you with a kit to take home to continue your whitening treatments.
Your teeth can be still stained by dark colored food and drinks, which can affect your whitening treatment. Whitening will not work for for teeth that are grey, or if your teeth have been discolored by an injury or by a medication. Dental work such as fillings, crowns, caps and veneers will not respond to whitening treatments
