There are times when a tooth might suffer from such extensive decay or damage that not even your Daniel Richards, DMD’s highly skilled dentists’ hands can save it. To prevent pain, infection and future complications they might recommend extracting the tooth completely.

Once your gums have fully healed, they can then help you to explore your options for restoring the extracted tooth. One of the more common methods is to install a bridge.

This piece of dental work will effectively restore the full function and appearance of the tooth with an artificial tooth that is anchored to crowns on each end.

Your Daniel Richards, DMD’s dentist will create abutments out of the two neighboring teeth by removing the majority of each tooth’s enamel layer. Then a detailed impression is made of the area, including the relevant teeth in you bite pattern.

After that, your Daniel Richards, DMD’s dentist will then secure temporary crowns over each abutment to protect them. The impression is then sent to a dental lab to serve as a guide while they make your final bridge.

We will call you in for a brief, second appointment when your final bridge is ready. The temporary crowns will be removed and they will cement your new bridge onto the abutments.

If you have a badly decayed or damaged tooth, you should call Daniel Richards, DMD’s office in Vestavia Hills, Alabama at (205) 823-6300 to schedule an appointment.
